Being your own boss means you are responsible for the growth of your business, for your business to grow you need to implement strategies and put in systems in place,
Do not be excited by the freedom and forget that your goal is to be the best. My goal is to be a millionaire. To achieve this goal I have learned that I need discipline.
Do not forget personal development
To be the better you, you need to develop yourself. When you were an employee your employer always take you to refresher courses.
Now that you are your own boss you need to take yourself to some refresher courses.
Read books and consume content that educates and inspires you. Experiment outside your comfort zone.
Wake up each day determined to challenge yourself more than the day before.
Become the best version of yourself in every area of your life. It will make you a strong entrepreneur who grows an amazing business
Surround yourself with entrepreneurs
Your circle has an effect on how successful you become. One secret to becoming successful as your own boss is surrounding yourself with entrepreneurs who inspire and push you.
You want those in your life who are just as hungry as you. People who are complacent will drag you down to their level quickly.
The point being: elevate your circle to become successful.
Challenges of being your own boss.
You use your own money
As a small business you use your money to spend and invest in the business. This is a sacrifice as it can be risky. Achieving profitability usually takes time therefore you must be prepared to go on without a salary for some months,
NO benefits anymore
You are your own boss you don’t rely on anyone for benefits. for me I have to buy my own phone and buy my own airtime. Buying a cheap phone from an expensive top of the range iPhone was one of the changes that hit me very hard.
The truth is I am struggling to adapt to this change. I have been using expensive smartphones for ten years.
Now I have to buy my own air time. I am not even able to call my parents every day as I used to do. I am starting to feel the expense of calling which I never felt before. If there is something that I miss is employment benefits.
I don’t want to discourage you from “becoming your own boss”, but I do want to share the facts with you so you know exactly what to expect when you leave your full-time job behind.
Entrepreneurship is one thing that is very rewarding and fulfilling, if you are willing to put 110% into your work.
Being your own boss takes “self-discipline”. In other words, self-control, personal responsibility and constant improvement directed toward your desired goal
